BUILDING UPDATE
Posted March 9, 2010

Pastor Clark shared the following update during worship on Sunday, March 7, 2010:

As I shared with you last month, the Building Team and Elder Board are committed to providing you with regular updates on our building plans.  Like many first-time home buyers, when we started this process we wanted “everything” for our building!  But, like every first-time home owner we realized we can’t afford everything we want.  So we have reviewed our original plans, discussed actual needs and “wants” with our ministry leaders and have been able to scale down the original plans in terms square footage.

We recognize that we cannot build a facility as large as the school that we are blessed to rent.  Originally, we estimated the total building cost at $6M+ but have since reduced the cost by over $1M by decreasing the size of the building.  Plus, we are continuing to explore other ways to reduce costs.  Our current conversations with an architect and a builder are focused on exploring cost-effective ways to build in phases so we can get on the property at a price we can afford.  Of course we are also discussing building designs and plans.

To date, through your generous and sacrificial giving, we have raised nearly $900K for the building!  Thank you so very much!  Even though you don’t see dirt being moved or other work happening on the property, rest assured there is a lot of activity taking place!  For more detailed information, contact me, an Elder or a member of the Building Team.

We announced last month that we will begin a new capital campaign this fall; more information will be available as fall approaches.  Also, I hope you have read about our Refund for ‘The Fund’ in the annual giving statement you received or in the weekly Valley Brook News & Reminders e-mail.  In our culture, if we are anticipating a refund we typically plan how to spend it before we even receive it.  At my house it’s no different, we are replacing an old couch but we are also giving God a portion of our refund to the building fund.  So, if you are anticipating a tax refund we are asking you to bring God into that process; ask God if He wants you to make a contribution to the building fund from your refund.

The most important piece of information that I need to share with you is a request for prayer. Will you please pray for our future Valley Brook home?  Pray for…

  • God’s timing
  • God’s help in raising money
  • for God to guide those who help us build
  • God’s protection
  • that God will use us and the future building to reach people for Christ and to build up believers in the faith

We need your prayers over the entire building process!

Refund for The Fund

It’s that season again,
Tax Season!

If you’re like most Americans, when you discover you are receiving a tax refund you begin daydreaming about…

• buying that new couch

• taking that dream vacation to a warm, sunny place

• making home improvements or other purchases

But, where does God fit into your tax refund plans and dreams?

If you’re anticipating a tax refund this year, will you engage with God about your refund and consider giving a portion of it to the Valley Brook Building Fund?

As you may know, we are actively raising money for a future ministry home for Valley Brook and your direct gift to the Building Fund will help us reach that goal!

So, will you take some time and reflect on giving a portion of your refund to Refund for ‘The Fund’, the building fund?

Simply write “Building Fund” in the memo field on your check and drop it in the offering basket on any Sunday or mail it to:
Valley Brook, ATTN: Treasurer, Box 567, Granby, CT, 06035
