BAPTISM AT VALLEY BROOK

At Valley Brook we ask those who have decided to follow Jesus' Christ to follow Jesus Command and publically identify themselves as his follower by the symbolic act of baptism by immersion.

Jesus tells us,

Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you.
(Matthew 28:19-20, CEV)

We perform baptisms at least four times during the year.  In the summer months baptisms take place in the brook located on our property.  During the remainder of the year we use the pool at the Farmington Valley YMCA.

BAPTISM BY IMMERSION

Following the evidence of scripture, we perform baptisms by immersion for anyone who is able to articulate their faith in Jesus. Generally speaking, for children we wait until they have reached third grade.

Baptism by immersion is symbolic of our new identity in Christ.  The actual gestures of baptizing a person by immersion imitate Jesus' death and resurrection as recognized where one reads

“…you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead”.
(Colossians 2:12, NLT)

Those actions identify someone as a follower of Christ; it symbolizes that they have become a new person.  As the Bible says

“… those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NLT)
