What is discipleship?

Discipleship is all about helping and mentoring someone in their faith.

As followers of Christ, we are called to help make disciples. Jesus tells us in Matthew 28:19-20,

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."

Discipleship involves coming alongside someone and investing into them what God has imparted to you. It’s about being in relationship with someone to help them on their spiritual journey. Discipleship is sharing the Christian life with others - going through the process with them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Women’s Discipleship Ministry about?
We pair women together a Mentor with a Mentee  to journey with each other to bring the Mentee into a deeper relationship with our Lord and develop intimacy with Jesus by applying the Word of God to everyday life.

Who will mentor me?
We have a team of mature, Christian women who have been vetted by the Leadership of Valley Brook, and have had training in mentoring. Knowing these women well, we pray about who would be a good match to mentor you.

What happens during our time together?
Each pairing tends to take on its own uniqueness.

You will be asked to complete a Mentee application that will help us understand what your needs may be in a Mentoring relationship:

  • when and how you prefer to meet
  • what your interests are
  • what you are expecting from the experience

This will help in the matching process, as well as become a foundation for the relationship.

How long does the mentoring experience last?
Again, this depends on the needs and how the relationship develops. Most are geared to last from 6 - 12 months, but many friendships develop and last longer.

Our goal is to mentor women who can at some point also pour into other women. As spiritual maturity and intimacy with Christ develops in the life of the Mentee, the process can be directed towards you helping other women, as well.

Are there specific materials that are used during our Discipleship time?
We have many resources available for our Mentors to use, including Lifeway Discipleship Pathways, IF:Collective, Bible Studies, and a host of other materials, depending, again, on the needs of the Mentee.
