BAPTISM AT VALLEY BROOK
At Valley Brook we ask those who have decided to follow Jesus Christ to follow Jesus' command and publicly identify themselves as his follower by the symbolic act of baptism by immersion. Baptism does not provide salvation, it demonstrates to the world that we have decided to believe in Jesus and are saved by faith.
Jesus tells us,
Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you.
(Matthew 28:19-20, CEV)
In the summer months baptisms take place in the brook located on our property; in the winter months we baptize indoors.
BAPTISM BY IMMERSION
Generally speaking, for children we wait until they have reached third grade.
Baptism by immersion is symbolic of our new identity in Christ. The actual gestures of baptizing a person by immersion imitate Jesus' death, burial and resurrection as recognized where one reads
“…you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead”.
(Colossians 2:12, NLT)
The act of baptism identifies someone as a follower of Christ; it symbolizes that they have become a new person. As the Bible says
“… those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NLT)
